The center bird twists round to nudge the oil-secreting
uropygeal gland located at the base of its back. Then it
applies touches of oil to bring out the the colors in its
dark irridescent feathers. Glossy ibises touch bills and make soft cooing sounds as
they build trust during their courtship ritual. Once the female has deposited her bright blue eggs,
she and her mate continue to work together
refurbishing the nest.
