Emy Nemr Art Work

EMY NEMR: (1902-1962). According to Aime Azar, Emmy Nemr is the only modern oriental artist whose work is embodied by an anguished sensuality marked by an overwhelming pessimism that is threatening and which is the core of the Syrian temperament. Like May Ziyada the Syrian writer, both took Egypt as their residence and both proved to portray a nocturnal and rebellious attitude.

Emmy Nemr perused her studies of light in surrealistic subjects and contributed in this period to a serious change in the Egyptian art scene. In this period forms began less sculptural and colors more cold and the subjects revealed dreams accompanied by a certain doubt forward reality.
