Barbara Armbruster Art Work
Safarkhan continues its path of promoting international artist who have strong ties and appreciation to the land of Egypt. In the month of May Safarkhan introduces the exhibition "The Green, the Street and the Scent of Life" by German born artist Barbara Armbruster.

This is an interactive exhibition where the viewer experiences multiple artistic elements all centering around the theme of the beautiful flora and fona of Egypt through the eyes of a passionate artist. More over the exhibition includes a collaborative effort between students of the German School in Cairo, the artist and Safarkhan through a project where they experience the process of being an active member with the community and nature.

Barbara Armbruster’s work is about cultural, societal structures, spaces and identities within our global world.

Through Barbara’s world:
"Plants had an essential meaning for our ancestors. Where plants grew there was water and life. Even though there is no necessity to settle close to a sea or a river anymore the original sensation of water and life is still part of us.

I am fascinated by the green alleys in the streets of Cairo, by the plants, little trees along or in front of buildings. This stands for more than only the desire for green.

I started to take a closer look at the various kinds of potted plants in the streets, which I could find almost everywhere. This spreads gentleness in the streets and a specific kind of intimacy which has captivated me so much. But I believe that it comprises different levels:the past, and today’s life even the feeling of the people living and working in the city of Cairo.

I translate my observations to my artwork using installation, drawing, painting, photograph and video".
