Homage to women
This show is an homage to Egyptian women, a tribute to their glory, to their sufferings and to their dignity. The flowers in this collection are symbolic of "offerings” of joy and hope, but often of melancholy and mourning. The ephemeral and the perennial get intertwined. According to the legend Persephone (Ishtar) the goddess of vegetation rises from the underworld, where she had been abducted, with the advent of spring. Persephone hovers over this collection assisted by another mythological female divinity: the ancient Egyptian hippopotamus-headed Tawaret. Tawaret which literally translates into "The Great Female" was the goddess of maternity and childbirth and the protector of women.
