Safarkhan News: We are proud to announce the great success of our
curation and organization of the first professional art charity auction
“Art for Life” in Egypt sponsored by “Bulgari” and in collaboration with
Magdi Yacoub Foundation. “Art for Life” succeeded in raising large sum
of funds through a professional auction held on May 21 by a licensed
Christie`s auctioneer with artwork donations from Safarkhan art gallery
and from internationally renowned Egyptian artists Adel El Siwi and
Mohamed Abla as well as the uniquely talented Ahmed Farid . All
proceeds of the auction were directly donated to the Magdi Yacoub
Foundation to help save lives.
Safarkhan Openning: We have the pleasure to invite you on Monday June
13th at 6:30 pm “exhibition ends September 20th “to its extended
exhibition for the forthcoming period of summer. The collection includes
a variety of artworks belonging to the era of the pioneers as well as a
roundup of the story of contemporary art. Among some of the early works
we are privileged to introduce the works of the great woman, artist and
activist Inji Efflatoun 1924-1989 whom we had her 30 works in a special
presentation section in the Biennale of Venice this year and whom the
MOMA in New York is translating her book . We also have the talented
late artist Mohamed Ismail 1936-1993 with his large oils summarizing the
culmination of all his globe trotting travels in a masterpiece of
simple yet complex black and white tones.
In the contemporary art realm we show works by the unique international
talent Sabah Naim and her use of painted photography and oils to depict
her view on nature and a blissful state. Mastering the human anatomy
using a monotone palette we have the talented Hend el Falafly work on a
large Diptique showing the female struggles and revelations. The two
uniquely talented Alexandrian sculptors Sarkis Tossoonian and Alfons
Louis each excelling in his own medium showing also in the collection
with new pieces. Side by side we arrive to the next generation of young
contemporary artists Mohamed Monaiseer who made great progress with his
experiments in abstracting the Arabic calligraphy into a rich dimension
of detailed and eloquent abbreviation of our culture. We also introduce
Karim Abdel Malak a new highly promising artist; embodied in his layered
works we witness the monumental old architecture mixed with
contemporary female life. Last but not least we show new works by the
young upcoming talent Ibrahim Khatab with his textured and layered
fabric canvases and the talented Maha George with her colorful
miniatures using symbols and icons of our rich Egyptian heritage.
